Three big names in Chinese football all scored in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday but Didier Drogba was nowhere to be seen.

Ex-Blackburn Rovers striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni backed up his goal on debut in the Chinese Super League on the weekend by again scoring but he was unable to help Guangzhou R&F to victory with his new club going down 4-3 to Liaoning Whowin.

Former Borussia Dortmund ace Lucas Barrios was also on target for Guangzhou Evergrande with the equalizing goal as they came from behind to beat Henan Construction 2-1.

Frederic Kanoute, who recently joined Beijing Guoan from Sevilla, scored a double to open his account as his club easily ran out 6-0 winners over Qingdao Jonoon.

However, Shanghai Shenhua could not find a place for star signing Didier Drogba in their line-up with the ex-Chelsea ace still yet to make his debut alongside former Blues teammate Nicolas Anelka. Shanghai were knocked out of the tournament 5-3 on penalties to Changchun Yatai after extra-time ended scoreless.

Wigan Athletic signing Fraser Fyvie has set himself a target of facing Manchester United ace Paul Scholes.

Fyvie signed for the Latics last week from Aberdeen.

“I can’t wait to play against Manchester United – and Paul Scholes in particular,” Fyvie told the Wigan Evening Post.

“They’re the biggest team going, and he’s still the best central midfielder in the world.

“Hopefully I’ll get the chance to play against him and show I belong at this level.”

Former Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco isn’t surprised Zlatan Ibrahimovic left AC Milan for PSG this week.

Secco was at Juve while Ibra was there.

“History shows us that he leaves all the big clubs,” the current Modena chief told Sport Italia. “He’s evidently not a player who places the emotional issue at the top of his list of priorities.

“Knowing the character of Ibra, knowing that the following year his contract would expire, even knowing what he had in mind for his renegotiation, we were conscious of not being able at that precise moment in history to go along with him.

“As a result, we decided to sell him to the only club that officially made an offer for his services – and that side was Inter.”

PSG signing Thiago Silva insists he never wanted to leave AC Milan.

The Brazilian has been sold to PSG for €42m and he’ll be joined by Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the Swede completed his switch on Wednesday.

“I’m happy with the transfer, but sad that I have had to say goodbye to Milan,” he said from Brazil’s Olympic training camp.

“I experienced some strong emotions there. It is a club which dedicates itself to its players and the squad – I owe them everything.

“My transfer to Paris was not a decision taken by me – that’s 100 per cent certain – after all, I had just extended my contract.

“People who understand about football know how things went and it was a complicated matter for me. It was my desire, and that of my family, to not leave Milan.

“I’m not going to PSG to earn more money. I’m not a mercenary, but I want to say sorry to the Milan fans.”

Nottingham Forest name O'Driscoll as new manager | Transfers | Tribal Football

Nottingham Forest have named Sean O’Driscoll as new manager.

Nottingham Forest have named Sean O’Driscoll as new manager.

O’Driscoll, whose previous clubs include Bournemouth and Doncaster, worked under previous Forest manager Steve Cotterill for five months earlier this year before leaving to join Crawley in May.

Majority shareholder Fawaz Al Hasawi acknowledged as much, but declared O’Driscoll the ideal appointment.

“We interviewed many well-known and high profile figures but we truly believe Sean O’Driscoll is the best man for the job,” he said.

“Sean’s passion for Nottingham Forest, knowledge of the game and the Championship in particular, plus his work ethic, shone through in our conversations. We are delighted to welcome Sean back to the club. He has our total support and we are looking forward to a long and successful relationship.

“He is hugely respected, not only by members of our current squad and staff at the club for his work in helping transform our fortunes last season, but also within the wider football community.”

Crawley chief executive Alan Williams was willing but reluctant to bid O’Driscoll farewell after just two months in the job.

“The club is extremely disappointed to be losing Sean so soon after he came to Crawley Town, but our policy has never been to stand in the way of any employee who feels they would prefer to pursue a role at a different club.” he said.

“We would like to thank Sean for his efforts during his time at the club and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Crawley director of football Steve Coppell and head coach Craig Brewster will take over team affairs for the time being.
